Bowmore Distillery is situated on the shores of Loch Indaal, right in the heart of the lovely town of Bowmore, which means great reef or Sea Rock. A few distinctive characters of Bowmore Single Malt Whiskies are smoke, salt and sea-weed, a great combination and when you look to the distillery from the pier in Bowmore you understand how these tastes end up in dram. Distilled on September 25, it was aged for 12 years in a refill sherry butt before being bottled on April 14 2014. Bowmore Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from barley that has been expertly cultivated in the rolling hills of Scotland. Once the barley has been harvested, it is malted and peated at the distillery - Bowmore remains one of the few Scottish distilleries that continues to hand-turn, malt, and peat its own barley. Unlike some other distilleries on Islay, however, the drying process is much shorter at Bowmore - only 15 hours - and utilizes only half as much peat, resulting in a whisky with a robust yet still mild smoky flavor. After the barley has been malted and peated, it is mashed and fermented with pure water drawn from Laggan River. The Exclusive Malts Bowmore 12 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky was distilled on September 25, 2001 and aged in a used sherry cask for over 4,500 days. In January 2014 over 12 years after it was initially distilled - the whisky was bottled at cask strength.
