Founded by Bruce Cohn in 1984, B.R. Cohn Winery is located in the heart of Sonoma Valley. This small family-operated winery is surrounded by the 90-acre Olive Hill Estate Vineyards, where soils warmed by underground natural hot springs and gentle ocean breezes create a unique microclimate, resulting in ideal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. B.R. Cohn also produces Chardonnay from the Carneros region and Merlot and SyrCab from Sonoma Valley. In addition to its award-winning wines, B.R. Cohn makes world-class California gourmet Olive Oils and hand-crafted Vinegars. The Estate Olive Oil is crafted from 140-year-old French Picholine olive trees imported from France in the mid 1800s, which surround the estate. Since founding the winery, Bruce Cohn’s focus has been to create wines that emphasize balance, elegance and consistent high quality from vintage to vintage.
“This 1986 wine possesses a youthful, dark ruby/purple color with no amber. It is closed aromatically, with damp earth, new oak, and curranty fruit poking its head through the overlay of tannin. Both the acidity and tannin are high, but the wine appears to possess the requisite richness to stand up to the structure, offering a fine mid-range, impressive expansiveness, admirable richness, a full-bodied texture, and sweet fruit. As the wine sat in the glass, the tart acids became slightly more prevalent, making me uncertain as to whether this wine will ever achieve total harmony. Although it is still young, with impressive individual components, I am not totally convinced this will develop into an outstanding wine. It should continue to drink well for 8-15 years. The tasting notes for this section are from two single blind tastings, one conducted in May, 1996, in California, and the other in June, 1996, in Baltimore.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
